Addition for external signals would be very useful feature. Users would benefit having option for visual/audible indicators that tells machine state (cycle running, feed hold, idle and alarms), and they could be used to control other functions like interlocks with external PLC.

External alarm input would also be good addition, that stops machine and sets it locked state, for e.g. driver failure and other unrecoverable hardware faults.

These features could be more or less easily implementable for next release with mega2560 branch as pinout is still initial and there is no limitations with available I/O pins.

Yes it can….but is more usefull for standalone Maschine….
grbl need a streaming Software like Candle, and this software can show state or error from grbl…so is really needed ?

For external alarm… what about just use a limit pin? This stop grbl too. If u want, give signal on 2 or all 3 limit, so u can see in controling Software, this is one external alarm and not missing steps. Or just use the feed hold input for only stop the router

I wish more one output pin, witch show the state of laser mode flag. I start with a cheap china 3020 router, witch have now some extras. One is a laser modul with 15W puls, mounted on the spindle clamp – is was to much work to replace spindle with laser every time.

At this moment is the change of electric signal and power is done with a manual switch. But with one signal LASERMODE, i can easy send pwm to spindle or to laser and power down the unused part.

I think, is saver and better to switch from grbl, there is the right info about the mode. But i afraid…dual router with laser and spindle may not so common.
